Activision announced Spider-Man: Edge of Time today, the latest in its licensed games based on the web-slinger. The game is set for this fall, and is being developed by Beenox, the studio behind Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Dimensions received a fairly positive reception, especially compared to some of Spidey's otherrecentofferings. That success made the studio take point on future wall-crawler games.
This game seems loosely connected to Shattered Dimensions, bringing back the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 universes. The two characters team up to save Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, from dying before his time. The announcement teases 'cause-and-effect' gameplay, in which actions by Amazing Spider-Man will change the timeline in 2099.
Marvel writer and co-creator of the 2099 series Peter David is helping pen the narrative. And if you're versed enough in comic lore to have already known who he was, you might also be attending Wonder Con this weekend in San Francisco. Activision will be showing off a sneak peek on April 2 at 4:30, in room 103.

Curiously, the announcement didn't mention platforms. Shattered Dimensions appeared on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS, so it's probably safe to expect it will land on similar platforms -- though perhaps the 3DS instead of a DS version.

i still need to play shattered dimension
Gotta reuse those assets.
Wow, does anyone else think that sounds like they're reusing the same crap they made for Shattered Dimensions to crap out another game in record time? They took the two different 'dimensions', dumped the two boring ones, and built a game around having only two suits instead of four.
I hope they get Doogie Howser for Amazing back. Also, I do think getting Peter David to do the story is smart, mimicking the way Batman:AA and Arkham City used Paul Dini (from Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, JLU among others) to pen that game's story. Getting people well used to writing these characters is very smart. I almost begin to hope that perhaps one day soon games will get the same production values as movies. Someday. No, Call of Duty costs a lot of money, but its scripts are hardly anything more than Michael Bay feverish fetish dreams. They're what he'd WRITE as a movie, not MAKE as a movie (ref: Transformers 2).
Still, Shattered had some problems and crapping out another title this rapidly suggests they'll have more problems piled onto those. And knowing it's Activision, I know that having bugs won't keep them from publishing...
